What did Bunye mean?
Bunye responded to a foreign election observer’s comment about last Monday’s election with the following statement:
“Comparisons between Mindanao and Afghanistan by a foreign observer who still has much to learn about Philippine culture, heritage and politics are uncalled for.”
What is Bunye trying to say with “still has much to learn about Philippine culture, heritage and politics”?
Did he mean that the foreign observer would not hae been shocked by what he saw if he understood our culture, heritage and politics? Ininsulto pa ni Bunye ang mga kababayan niya!
Or would Bunye have preferred a comparison to Iraq where three “democratic elections” were held under the watchful eyes of heavily armed British and American soldiers?
Personally, I think the foreign observer would have been more accurate if he described the situation as a combination of Afghanistan and Iraq since both private armies and the AFP were very visible in many parts of the country .

Parate namang takipan sa Malakanyang. Kung ano ang mga sinasabi ngayon, iba naman ang sinasabi kinabukasan. “Wala kaming alam dyan, hindi alam ni Madam Gloria yan”. Parate ganito nalang ang mga katagang binibitiwan. Ginagawang gago ang sambayanan. Kung ano ang toto-o sabihin at gawan ng solusyon. Walang makuha ang mga mamayan Pilipino matinong kasagutan. Alam naman ng mga mamayan ang kilos ng bibig kung kasinunggalingan at hindi. Kasabihan na nga kung ano ang ginagawa ng mga magulang na makita ng mga paslit yon din ang kanilang gagawin. Kung nagsinungaling ang pinakamata-as ang katungkulan yon din ang gagawin yong nasa ibaba.
