Life in PNoy’s Enchanted Kingdom

The end of history

Posted in Manuel Buencamino by uniffors on the December 15th, 2009

“The revolution is over.” That’s how GMA News should have headlined their story Philippine left backs Villar, Loren

After months of courtship, presidential candidate Manuel Villar of the Nacionalista Party (NP) succeeded in getting the support of the leftist group Makabayan.

Senatorial aspirants Bayan Muna Satur Ocampo and Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza on Monday officially joined the NP senatorial ticket as “guest candidates.”

Ocampo and Maza bring with them the support of the eight party-list groups under Makabayan–Bayan Muna, Gabriela, Anakpawis, Kabataan, Katribu, Migrante, Courage, and the Alliance of Concerned Teachers.

It is the first time that the leftist alliance is officially supporting presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

It’s a good opportunity to heal that past.”

Ocampo called the partnership a “mutual adoption” of platforms: Makabayan adopts the NP’s platform while the NP adopts Makabayan’s platform.

My heart bleeds for my friend.

Times have changed indeed. Joma’s friends in the Philippines have become bourgeois.

Actually, they and Villar belong to the same flock: opportunistas!

When Gloria led the coup d’état in 2001, the left sent warm bodies to prop her up too. The left hated Erap so much because they thought they would be able to sweet talk Erap into honouring CARRHIL, but guess what, Erap didn’t pay attentio to that so that got Joma upset and so when the heat against Erap came to a boiling point, they rushed to Gloria and made a deal with her — “We will support you, provide the warm bodies you need, be there with you, etc., but you must be nice to our friend in Utrecht.”

Hah! na double crossed ulit sila.

They are probably trying the same tack again with Villar…

These leftists are so disappointing. Supporting Villar only proved they don’t have steady roots to begin with, kahit sino na lang.

if, to you, the revolution is only about satur and company, then i am not surprised by your (and chi, and adbrux and the equalizer’s) opinion on the NP-Makabayan alliance.

if you, however, concede that the “revolution” is what’s happening in the hills — a revolution that remains unvanquished by a succession of regimes, precisely because the conditions demand for it — and that satur and company are merely exploiting the democratic space, then you are totally misreading the whole thing. sino ngayon ang hilo, lasing at bangag?

you pa-intellectual people should stop looking at satur and ocampo as if they are politicians in the same mold as gibo, villar, noynoy, etc. they are revolutionaries, for crying out loud. the moment you lose sight of this fact, you become, well, hilo, lasing or bangag.

    Danton,

I guess you missed the announcement. NDF has changed its name from National Democratic Front to Nacionalista Democratic Front.

Like I said, the only difference between Villar and Gloria is the mole in the face so the left could have waged their revolution just as well by endorsing Gibo and running as guest candidates of Lakas Kampi.

You don’t get it, do you?

    danton, exactly.

the argument against all this is only hinged on two points: that manny villar and loren legarda are trapo, and that satur and liza have sold their souls by allying themselves with the trapos. katakut-takot ang mali sa argumentong ito. una, wala namang debate na traditional politicians sina villar at loren. they come from the ruling, propertied class, and have been in politics for quite sometime. now, when progressives ally themselves with cory (who is clearly from the ruling class) against marcos, or gloria arroyo against erap, we generally acknowlege this as a broad unity against a common enemy. it goes without saying kung ano ang kahinaan ni cory sa kasaysayan, siyempre ganun din kay gloria.

pero when this very same tactic is used to broaden their ranks during elections, the left is ridiculed by the likes of this blogger (who, it must be known, is a noynoy supporter).

before i go to the second point, let me just say this: satur and liza have done more for this country than me, this blogger, and noynoy and mar roxas combined. they have sacrificed more, suffered more for their principles, and fought back more. satur alone was among the most tortured political prisoners during the dictatorship. he was definitely imprisoned the longest (running up to cory’s regime). in 2007, he was again imprisoned, and prosecuted, with liza and the rest of the so-called batasan 6.

the point is not that because of their sacrifices, they should be rewarded by senate seats. the point is that their characters have been tested throughout their political careers. they had numerous opportunities to sell their souls (for those under torture, in exchange for some relief from torture).

the alliance with NP is but an electoral alliance. at hindi man ako privy sa negotiations, may tiwala ako sa pagkatao ng dalawa, that they had the interest of the people at heart. di hamak na magtitiwala ako sa pagdedesisyon at pagsusuri nila kesa sa blogger na ito.

at isa pa. electoral struggle nga e. nasa kalingkingan lang yan ng pangkalahatang struggle ng kaliwa. the revolution is over? bangag ka ba, blogger?

when the left joins forces with Villar, who is known for the C5 road mess, and joins the slate with Marcos in it, there must be something wrong. advise kaya ni joma ito?

yang mga pa-cute na attempt at humor, uniffors, does not work to your advantage, kasi pa-cute nga e. in any case, this is all strategic and calculated by the left. it’s not as if wala lang magawa sina satur and liza.

and your point about villar being no different than gloria is shaky at best, but you insist on this because without it, your argument crumbles. based on your flawed judgment of villar, you judge satur and liza. granting that villar is not perfect, you think the left does not know that?

as i said, if you insist on viewing the left through your burgis prism, you are totally misreading this.

in the end, what satur and liza did will be judged by the people — the masses — that they have fought for all this years, not by your burgis perspective and bias against the left.

    Cheezballs,

  17. danton said,

“If they win, good for them. But if they lose what does that tell you?”

That their “revolution” is not going to be won in the electoral arena and the countryside remains the best option. If they lose, they won’t lose much but they will walk away convinced even more that the “system” needed to be brought down to its knees by other means. if they lose, that’s one less delusion to deal with.

Ginawa niyo lang PBB yung US elections last year kaya ginawa si Noynoy na My Own Private Obama. My gawd.

Hmm.
