Cheap-shot blogger

Posted in Manuel Buencamino by uniffors on the June 27th, 2008

The blogger is cheap.

This is his cheap shot:

Meanwhile the CPP NPA NDF cell and the leftist ideologues inside the biggest tabloid in the country are working overtime to complain about “US military presence” in the form of the USS Ronald Reagan, which is assisting in rescue and recovery operations at the capsized MV Princess of the Stars. In this connection, there is also the utter gracelessness of the blogger at Uniffors.

In his usual cheap way, the blogger, Dean Jorge Bocobo, who baptized himself as “Rizalist”, insinuated that I was criticizing the helping hand of Bush by connecting me to “the CPP NPA NDF cell and the leftist ideologues inside the biggest tabloid in the country.”

But my post makes no mention of Bush sending an aircraft carrier to the typhoon stricken areas.

The post, from my newspaper column in the Business Mirror, was on Gloria Arroyo’s lack of pakikiramay.

The two cartoons, one on Gloria’s sidewalk news conference and the other, quoting Bush verbatim, didn’t even hint at a nuclear warship delivering water bottles to typhoon victims. The cartoons were there to highlight the utter uselessness, insensitivity, and waste of resources of Gloria’s trip.

I think I know what got Rizalist’s goat. It’s these two paragraphs:

In Washington, the only meeting that you cannot pass off to a cabinet member is your tete a tete with lameduck George. That’s nothing but a photo-op. What lasting commitment can you get from him who will be gone by January?
You don’t have to go to the Pentagon. Gilbert Teodoro can meet with his counterpart to discuss defense reform even though it’s a waste of time because he will be talking to a lame duck secretary.

DJ, I know you are not “despicable” as AdB called you. You are just depressed. So please get some help. Or at least take some medication.

I’m sure you are aware that one of the most imprtant weapons used by the US in Bush’s “global war of terror” are anti-depressants for its forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. (See Time Magazine).

Don’t ask me why fighting for democracy is so depressing.

But you can avail yourself of US military anti-depressants since you are a keyboard warrior, a message multiplier, an essential ingredient of any war.

Don’t despair DJ. Just think Vietnam. We never imagined that war would end. But it did. These war will end too, with employees of Blackwater and Halliburton hanging on the rails of helicopters as they scramble out of the Green Zone and Kabul.

Meanwhile, take a pill or two. Chase it down with beer or tequila. I guarantee it will make you feel like you’re winning something.

Definitely your previous blog entry triggered something visceral in DJB. It reminds me of the Manchurian Candidate.

    mb,
okay, Mr. Dukakis, so what DO you think about the presence of the USS Ronald Reagan?

    DJ,

“okay, Mr. Dukakis, so what DO you think about the presence of the USS Ronald Reagan?”

Don’t you think a chopper or smaller boat would have been a less inexpensive way to deliver water bottles?

    DJ,

“You make the myanmar junta look reasonable. It’s because you are consumed by hatred and loathing…mainly for yourself.”

After reading the insults proferred by DJB to Manuel in the previous comment exchanges, i.e., I re-read and read again Manuel’s article to try to decipher if there was anything in that article that could have justified Dean’s unrestrained anger! But much as I tried to, I couldn’t see anything in Manuel’s article that could have provoked such intense hostility and undisguised loathing not only for Manuel but also towards most Filipinos!

    A sampling:

“what virtue can you hold up as your contribution to the human edifice that could be compared to even a toe nail on George W. Bush’s foot on just this day?

No Filipino, no Filipino American, present company most emphatically included, is going to do one millionth the good for the unfortunate victims of Typhoon Frank than George W. Bush and the US men and women in uniform, who once more must come to clean up our mess. Y’all are disgusting, indecent, ungracious brown skinned simian-souled ingratos.

I’ve always had a dose of respect for DJB — I believe in the freedom of expression but but his latest comments point now to how low he would stoop in order to glorify his American masters and commanders, and that is by demeaning his fellow brown skinned Filipinos and that to me is despicable.

As Manuel rightly said, “But my post makes no mention of Bush sending an aircraft carrier to the typhoon stricken areas.” so what triggered an almost maniacal reaction in Dean?

My guess is that he was expecting Manuel to fall all over himself in gratitude, to prostrate himself before the American military personnel aboard USS RR and to devote his article to glorifying Dubya Bush (instead of criticising Gloria) for diverting USS Double R to Manila from Hong Kong (hat tip to Karl Garcia)… Duh!

Just reading MB’s thread title, Makiramay ka, already gives the impression that it is a dedicated pun to Queen Gloria rather than an attempt to throw a monkey wrench to Dubya or the US aid delivered by USS RR. I found nothing that should anger someone for not singing all praises and allelujahs to Uncle Sam. I think most Filipinos would feel a sense of gratitude to such magnanimity, no matter how small. What is most despicable is the fact that we don’t see it being matched in quality by our own govt, whose officials are busy junketing abroad.

MB, did the McCarthy era comprise his formative years? Sure seems like it.

    bambina,

He was a member of those Joma inspired youth groups, detained for a short period when martial law was declared and “deported” to the US - straight to the airport from detention is what I heard. In the States he experienced an epiphany and turned into a right wing nut

I respect DJB. But in this case, I think he’s off the cuff.

And even if MB was criticizing the deployment of USS RR, I don’t think it would be being an “ingrato”

We don’t know if Reagan is carrying nukes because the US won’t say so. If she does carry nuke, then I don’t think it’s wrong to refuse her entry to RP waters. We need help, yes, but that doesn’t mean we should do away with the constitution.

hahaha but still, this entry solidifies my newly gotten info desconstructing who this pretentious intellectual blogger is and you’re right - cheappangga lang pala. hahaha

all of the commenters there had become a target of his weird effort at satire called heckling.
